Way back in 2007, there was a previous rezoning request for this parcel but Horry County City Council remanded the request back to the Horry County Planning Commission after it was deemed inconsistent with the character of the community. The request was further amended for the purposes of developing a residential subdivision containing half acre lots. That request was approved March 13, 2007. Although, the project was never developed, there was a request to have the future land use map amendment from Rural and Scenic & Conservation to Rural Communities.
On March 6, 2025, Horry County City Council will now be reviewing a request to rezone approximately 70.14 acres from Commercial Agriculture to Multi Residential (MRD 1). Approximately 34.3 of those acres are wetlands as the Kingston Lake Swamp runs nearby.
This property is located northeast of downtown Conway, east of Highway 701 and about midway between Highway 22 and Highway 905.
